Use these BMW air-flow-meter connector references to identify the five-position Bosch-style housing. Engine, market and previous harness changes can affect the plug fitted to a particular car.
| BMW model / application | Reference year(s) | Connector selection |
|---|---|---|
| E30 325 / 325e / 325i family | 1987; 325i reference also 1989 | BMW AFM drawings show a rectangular five-position housing. Compare the mating face, keying and spring clip with this kit. |
| E30 M3 (S14) | 1987 reference | BMW's AFM connector drawing shows five positions. Check the original housing before choosing this kit. |
| E28 535i / M5 manual applications | 1988 reference | The AFM wiring-face drawing shows five positions. Match your specific AFM and harness plug. |
| E24 635CSi | 1989 reference | The AFM housing drawing has five positions, with four numbered wire connections shown. Count housing positions, not only wires. |
| E36 / E46 engine swaps or custom wiring | Project-dependent | Select by the installed component. Factory fitment for these chassis has not been established for this housing. |
Count all five housing positions. A five-position plug may have fewer populated wires. Use your vehicle's wiring diagram to preserve terminal positions; this kit supplies five terminals and seals.
BMW application references: 1987 E30 ETM, 8500-3; 1989 E30 ETM, 8500-2; 1987 E30 M3 ETM, 8500-2; 1988 E28 ETM, 8500-3; 1989 E24 ETM, 8500-2. Years identify the manuals reviewed, not a continuous fitment range. These references establish the connector format used in those examples; verify the dimensions and keying of your original plug.
Check your connector before ordering
Compare the mating face, pin count, keying, latch and rear wire entry in our photos with your original connector. Pin count alone does not confirm fitment. Match the housing width, keying and retaining clip as well as the number of positions.

Crimping and terminal removal
Use an automotive open-barrel crimping tool suited to the supplied terminals and wire seals. Preserve your original pin positions when rebuilding the connection. The final gallery image shows a properly crimped terminal and seal as an assembly reference.
Need to remove terminals? See our Bosch Style Connector De-pin Tool and 2-, 3-, 4- and 5-pin connector depinning guide. Some factory connectors are permanently locked and must be replaced rather than depinned.

Also available: 2-pin Bosch-style connectors, 3-pin Bosch-style connectors and 4-pin female connector kits.
